Vic Firth makes the best drumsticks, brushes and mallets available. There are three PE signature stick models; I use the “Big Band Stick” for just about everything (and the Heritage Brush, too).
Why Tama? Why now?
Tama Star is a joy to play.
Star SOUND. They SING. They make me play differently: more relaxed and more exciting. Happier and more confident. Star makes drumming fun. I feel like a kid again.
These drums are that good.
There are many cymbal brands, but Zildjian remains my one and only choice. Why? The tradition. The sound. Their response, feel and reliability … Zildjian is my sound.
I started off playing Remo, and did some of my most important work on Remo heads including my stints with Weather Report and Steps Ahead. I’m thrilled to be playing on Remo again, their heads not only solve every possible drum problem, they inspire me to play better.
Very excited to announce my new association with Meinl Percussion! Meinl is designing some of the most clever percussion devices and accessories I've ever seen, and their instruments sound fantastic. Looking forward to lots of new grooves ahead...
Zoom has managed to attain that place in culture where the name becomes a verb: “Let’s zoom the rehearsal…” or, “Let’s zoom the gig.” The Zoom H5 4-track recorder is my favorite new device, and I use it everywhere. (Can’t imagine teaching without it.)
The most reliable, dependable microphones and headphones. When my drums are mic’ed with Shures, I know that the audience will hear what I’m hearing. And my studio is 100% Shure.
Roland’s V-Drums play and sound great … they are my doorway to electronic infinity. We also use Roland electronic kits in the USC Thornton School of Music Drum Lab. If you’re going to go electronic, go Roland.
Virtually Erskine won the 2012 Drummie Award for Best Sound Library. The library features me playing two kits recorded and produced in high definition by John Emrich. This collection boasts multiple articulations and dynamics. (The Virtually Erskine MIDI Grooves Library features over 400 MIDI grooves of me playing 12 unique styles in 3/4 and 4/4 - including Jazz, Swing, Rock, Funk and Afro-Cuban musics.)
I became introduced to Samson by way of Zoom — they’re 2 separate companies now — and I love using their new Bluetooth-enabled Expedition Express speaker system for teaching…and for beach parties.
