Pianist, composer and author of the best-selling book “Effortless Mastery,” Kenny Werner, joins forces with bassist Darek Oles and drummer/producer Peter Erskine for a moving sonic tapestry titled “Music.” Kenny’s touch is equaled by his imagination, and this album captures Werner at his creative best. Recorded in the same manner that our favorite jazz albums were made: first takes with no second thoughts. The added beauty of a female vocal choir to Kenny’s “GU-RU” might be the surprise jazz track and sound of the year. This album joins Fuzzy Music’s list of acclaimed piano trio sets that feature the best sound and the highest levels of playing: serious music that is fun and pleasant to listen to. “Music,” by Kenny Werner.

“MUSIC”
Kenny Werner, with Darek Oles & Peter Erskine
Once while having dinner in Paris before a concert, Kenny Werner asked me what my musical “Kryptopnite” was. I said, “There’ll Never Be Another You.” “Why?,” he asked. I explained that my high school big band played an arrangement of it terribly, and my 14-year-old self could not let go of the cringe when playing that tune. At the concert, Kenny announced that the first tune would be “There’ll Never Be Another You.” He then looked at me through the piano and said, “Deal with it.” THIS is Kenny in a nutshell: his MUSIC is an invitation to deal, to play and to ponder. We recorded this album in 4 hours. It’s life. It’s sound. It’s MUSIC. ~ Peter Erskine
